Lachie Smart – Deer Park

Back from a shoulder injury suffered in Round 6 and was among the goals booting three majors in an 86-point victory over Sunshine. Finished with 12 disposals and three tackles.

Ethan Jackson – Sunshine

Had a big day out tallying 43 disposals (32 kicks) with 10 clearances against Deer Park. Was very good in the contest and in transition to again be among the top three players for the Kangaroos.

Harrison White- Werribee Districts

Helped his side to a 25-point win over Altona with another solid outing. Played on the wing and both flanks, used his breakaway speed to his advantage and responding well when challenged physically. Featured in the best for the second winning running.

Connor Thar – Werribee Districts

Was heavily tagged in his second game back but improved as the match went on. Spent more time in attack against Altona and did some nice things as small forward, one of those a smart finish on goal.

Saad El-Hawli – Altona

Continued his good form in Altona’s loss to Werribee Districts. Was again dangerous as an interceptor and providing rebound from defence. Collected 31 disposals and 10 marks.

Spencer Johnson – Altona

Had a limited impact in the Round 11 loss due to injury.

Akol Deng – Yarraville Seddon (Local Player of the Week)

Dominated in the ruck winning 53 hit-outs. Jumped well in the middle and took some good marks around the ground. Was named second best for the Eagles in a tough day against Caroline Springs.

GEELONG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Marty Brennan – Grovedale

Was a key contributor and one of the Tigers’ best with 19 disposals at 79% efficiency in a 53-point win over South Barwon. Won his own ball on the inside and picked the right time to defend at the contest.

Flynn Young – Grovedale

Played his role well in a forward line that functioned nicely. Kicked a goal and had some other good moments as Grovedale improved to 6-6 on the season. Defensive work was encouraging again.

Sam Witherden – North Shore

Among the best in 10-point win over Lara. Lined up at halfback, in the midfield and in a key defensive post where he came out on top against his direct opponent. Finished with 25 disposals at 88% efficiency.

Gennaro Bove – Newtown & Chilwell

Built on last week’s solid return with 18 disposals and a goal to be one of the best for the Eagles in their 17-point win over Bell Park.

Toby Mahoney – Bell Park

Slotted back in nicely after a couple of weeks out and performed well in the Dragons’ loss to Newtown & Chilwell. Was clean with the ball with his 26 disposals while also adding five tackles.

Logan Wagener – Leopold

Was important yet again as the Lion’s rebounded from their third loss of the season with a come-from-behind 14-point win over Geelong West. Impacted at stoppages and in general play as usual.

Emmanuel Ajang – Geelong West

Stepped up with midfield mate Noah Gribble returning to VFL level and helped put the Giants in a winning position before they were overrun late against Leopold. Best on ground after gathering 33 disposals and 11 clearances.

Joe Maishman – St Mary’s

A rolled ankle hampered his day against St Albans but was lively early in what was a comfortable win.

ESSENDON DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Sam Paea – Aberfeldie (Local Player of the Week)

Best on ground after bagging eight goals to help the Abers defeat Doutta Stars by 95 points. Led up strongly at the ball carrier getting great separation on his man and finished off his chances superbly.

Lucas Rocci – Aberfeldie

Another impactful game as a small forward. Applied great pressure in the front half for the Abers while laying a number of key tackles. Added three goals and selflessly gave off a couple of others.

Darcy Cassar - Keilor

Collected 24 disposals in the 50-point loss to Strathmore. Lined up in several positions for the second week in a row and again demonstrated his ability to find the ball on the edges.

EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Tom McCaffrey – Balwyn

Second best in an important win over South Croydon. Booted five goals from 20 disposals and used the ball particularly well in windy conditions. Also had five tackles in what was a well-rounded two-way performance.

VICTORIAN AMATEUR FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Harry Stubbings – Old Scotch

Played in a 25-point loss to Old Melburnians. His highlights included a nice goal and a courageous mark to set up another.

OVENS AND MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Poor execution costs Werribee at Port Melbourne

Werribee suffered its first loss since Round 7 with a narrow three-point loss at Port Melbourne in Round 14.

The Big W fought back from 40 points down following a goalless first half but fell agonisingly short of a remarkable come-from-behind win with inaccuracy in front of goal once again proving costly.

FINAL SCORE
Werribee: 0.3 0.6 4.11 7.16 (58)
Port Melbourne: 4.1 7.4 8.4 9.7 (61)

GOALS
Werribee: S. Manngh 2, J. Dahlhaus 2, A. Lual 2, T. Boyd.
Port Melbourne: A. Anastasio 2, F. Roberts, H. Hooper, P. Hunter, A. Manton, T. O'Sullivan, C. Szust, E. Templeton.

BEST
Werribee: N. Coughlan, J. Henderson, S. Conway, S. Mannagh, J. Dahlhaus, M. Sodomaco.
Port Melbourne:

HOW IT HAPPENED
Werribee almost got off to the perfect start with the Tom Gribble sending the first centre clearance deep inside 50 where Hudson Garoni’s quick snap was touched through for a behind. From there the Big W enjoyed the majority of play during the early exchanges before a quick Port Melbourne counter-attack produced the first goal of the game after six minutes. Despite having plenty of possession Werribee wasn’t able to create any real chances with a number of inside 50 entries failing to find a target. Meanwhile, the Borough took advantage at their end adding their second 14 minutes in before a further two majors had Werribee trailing by 22 points.

The second quarter started with another Werribee centre clearance and shot on goal but Matt Hanson’s snap missed right. Chances were again few and far between for the visitors with Werribee having just 38% time in possession compared to Port Melbourne with 50% ad the Big W were put under even more pressure while again conceding multiple goals after turning the ball over. Jack Henderson had a late chance to score Werribee’s first goal of the night but his hurried snap sailed through for the team's sixth minor score as Werribee went into halftime down by 40 points.

Facing a big deficit, it was Shaun Mannagh who kick started Werribee’s second half comeback. An early intercept from Michael Sodomaco lead to Mannagh marking on 50 and nailing the set shot. Five minutes later Werribee’s fightback was well and truly underway when Jay Dahlhaus marked in a similar position and converted from long range. The Borough goaled midway through the term but that would be their only score of the quarter as defensive general Nick Coughlan rallied those around him. Coughlan would eventually play a key role in W’erribee's third goal sending a long kick to full forward where Ariek Lual gathered and ran the ball in to score from point blank range at the 24-minute mark. Mannagh reduced the margin to 17 points late in the quarter when he burst through traffic and snapped his second. In a dominant third term Werribee had 19 inside 50s to just 5.

Werribee continued its charge early in the last quarter and after a couple of early misses Dahlhaus got the crucial goal the visitors needed, taking the advantage after Ollie Hanrahan was caught high to cut Port Melbourne’s lead to just nine points after five minutes. The Borough added a goal of their own at the 11-minutes mark to heap more pressure on but after struggling through the middle stage of the term Werribee made one final push. Lual snuck home a close range effort after 20 minutes and then with two and half minuets to go Tom Boyd marked and goaled to make the difference just three points. However, that would be the last score of the game as the siren sounded just as Werribee went inside 50 one final time.
