Several players returned from injury to line up at local level on the weekend with just two of the 11 Werribee players in action finishing on a losing side.
GEELONG FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Charlie Byrne – Newtown & Chilwell
A key contributor in an eight-point win over reigning premiers St Mary’s. Covered the ground well, was composed with ball in hand and made good decisions. Named one of the best after collecting 21 disposals and eight marks.
Flynn Young – Newtown & Chilwell
Kicked a nice goal and had some good moments against St Mary’s as the Eagles remained undefeated and at the top of the ladder with their seventh when of the year.
Sam Witherden – North Shore
One of the best performers for the Seagulls in his first outing since late April. Was strong in the contest, provided plenty of drive and used the ball well in a drawn game at Grovedale. Had 24 disposals, eight marks and three tackles.
Sam Azzi – North Shore
Outstanding in his first game for the club. Was strong in the air dragging down 13 marks for the game with seven of those contested. Tallied 28 disposals (22 kicks) on the day to also finish in the best players.
Cam Anderson - North Shore
Started down back before moving up forward and onto a wing where he was creative and linked up well. Finished with two goals in what was a relatively low scoring contest against the Tigers.
ESSENDON DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Darcy Cassar – Keilor (Local Player of the Week)
Found plenty of footy in a huge win over Avondale Heights. Was amongst the best players for the Bulldogs on the back of a 32-possession, nine mark and two goal performance. Didn’t waste many disposals running at 87% efficiency.
Cam McLeod - Avondale Heights
Played behind the ball and took some time to get going on a tough day for Heights. Had his best quarter in the last ending the match with 19 disposals, eight marks (5 intercept) and nine rebound 50s.
Lachlan Smart - Deer Park
Copped some close attention from Craigieburn after his exploits the previous week. Pushed into the midfield to get involved and finished with 15 disposals, five tackles and a goal in a comfortable Lions win.
VICTORIAN AMATEUR FOOTBAL LEAGUE
Zayne Galea - Williamstown CYMS
Was solid for a CYs backline that took on Old Trinity with a stronger focus on team defence with the hosts holding the opposition to just four goals in the first three quarters. Totalled 10 disposals and eight marks, five of those intercepts in an encouraging win.
BALLARAT FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Jack Riding – North Ballarat
After getting a taste of VFL football returned to the Roosters and had a huge game against Melton South. Accumulated 39 disposals and bagged seven goals in a near 200-point triumph. Of his touches, 23 were contested while adding 10 inside 50s and 10 tackles.
WESTERN REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Sam Clifford - Hoppers Crossing
It was another long day for the Warriors doing battle with a rampant Werribee Districts. Made the most of his 14 disposals in a heavy loss that confines Hoppers to the bottom of the ladder.
