At Local Level: Weekly Player Report - July 30

In Round 18 action, Werribee extended their winning streak to eleven at the VFL level while welcoming back several players from injury at the local level. Eleven of our players competed across six local leagues, with several delivering standout performances. Read all about it in this week's Local Player Report:

Geelong Football Netball League:

Matthew Keast - St Mary’s
In just his second game back from injury, Keast was named among the best as St Mary’s defeated the Giants. He gathered 30 disposals with an impressive 70% efficiency, including 18 contested possessions, and hit the scoreboard with a goal.

Charlie Byrne - Newtown & Chilwell Eagles
Byrne was once again named among the best for Newtown despite the Eagles' loss to St Albans, who secured their first win of the 2024 season. The defender collected 24 disposals, which included 19 kicks, 12 contested possessions, and took seven marks across the backline.

Connor Thar - Lara
Returning from injury for his first game since Round 10, Thar didn't miss a beat despite Lara's seven-goal loss to Grovedale. He accumulated 25 disposals with a 76% efficiency, including 13 contested possessions, eight clearances, and laid five tackles in an impressive return.

Mitch Chafer - Grovedale
Was named in the best as Grovedale defeated Thar’s Lara. The versatile forward kicked four goals to take his season tally to 20 goals from just the seven games. Chafer also gathered 17 disposals, which included nine contested possessions, and took three marks.

Essendon District Football League:

Sam Paea - Aberfeldie
Paea played his second game back from that shoulder injury he sustained in Round 5 and kicked a team-high two goals for Aberfleide as the true blues went down to Essendon Doutta Stars. On top of his two majors Paea collected 15 disposals, took four marks and went inside 50 five times as the key forward strings together games. 

Cam McLeod - Aberfeldie
McLeod provided run off half-back as his and Paea's Aberfeldie went down by 13 points. Cam also snuck forward for his first goal of the year.

Wardell Lual - Airport West
Lual played his second game for Airport West and the defender played a solid game as the Eagles comfortably beat Avondale Heights. Lual found 15 disposals, 14 of which were kicks, took six marks and had five intercept possessions.

Reuben William - Keilor
Keilor’s undefeated run narrowly continued on the weekend, defeating Strathmore by just two points in tough conditions on Saturday. William had a solid defensive game, where he ended with 11 disposals, three marks and seven 1%er’s. 

Western Football Netball League:

Michael Selsby - Yarraville Seddon Eagles
Selsby delivered another big performance for Yarraville, as the Eagles defeated Parkside by 11 points at Merv Hughes Oval. Playing in the midfield, Selsby gathered 23 disposals, kicked two goals, laid nine tackles, and delivered six inside 50s, consistently stuffing the stat sheet each week.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
Miller made a strong return from a long-term groin injury, playing his first game for Williamstown CYMS since Round 3. He earned a spot among the best as the CYMS drew 62-all with Old Haileybury. Playing as a small forward, Miller delivered a game-high three goals, to go with 14 disposals and four marks, helping the CYMS secure two valuable points against the top side.

Ballarat Football Netball League:

Joel Cadman - Darley
Cadman played a key role as Darley returned to the winners' list with a thrilling five-point victory over Sebastopol. The forward contributed across the board, gathering 11 disposals, taking seven marks (including several contested), and laying seven tackles in a strong all-around performance.
