Werribee Finish 2025 Season On A High

18 August 2025

Werribee wrapped up its 2025 campaign with a 45-point win over the Northern Bullants at Preston City Oval on Saturday.

The 12.14.86 to 5.11.41 victory finished off Werribee’s season with a positive result, leading at every change on their way to ending the year on a high.

The result saw Werribee finish 16th, recording seven wins in what was a challenging premiership defence but one that featured 22 debutants across the year.

Mace Cousins closed out the season in style with another standout performance in defence, while Brady Wright was influential up forward in an exciting display, kicking three goals. Jack Riding ended his year with an equal career-high 36 disposals, rounding out a season where greater midfield responsibility saw him average 24 touches per game. Werribee’s midfield had the upper hand all day, with Daly Andrews collecting 29 disposals and eight clearances, Dom Brew adding 27 and eight clearances and Jake Smith impressing with a personal best of 34 disposals.

Hudson Garoni hit the scoreboard early with Werribee’s second goal of the day, extending his remarkable streak of at least one goal in every appearance across the 2024 and 2025 seasons. His run stands at an unprecedented 39 consecutive games. The key forward finished the match with four, including two in the final quarter.

Brady Wright got Werribee off to a fast start, with Dom Brew finding the young forward inside 50 before he drilled the set shot for the opening goal. Garoni followed with the second, but the Bullants responded through Will Elliott with back-to-back majors. Returning for his first VFL game since Round 10, Archer Gardiner combined with Wright once again, setting up his second goal of the term to give Werribee a seven-point lead at quarter time.

The Bullants reduced the margin to just two points through Elliott’s third major to begin the second term, but classy small forward goals from the two Harrys, Miller and Grintell steadied Werribee and kept them 14 points clear at the main break.

Werribee’s defence stood tall in the third term, restricting the Bullants to just a single point for the quarter. Brady Wright began the second half much like he did the first, taking another strong mark inside 50 to slot his third goal of the day before setting up Angus Hicks less than a minute later for a clever dribbling finish.

Despite several missed opportunities throughout the quarter, Garoni’s second major extended the margin to six goals at the final change, leaving Werribee with one last quarter to put the finishing touches on their 2025 campaign.

Harrison Grintell broke through 15 minutes into the final term with a composed set shot, before Jay Dahlhaus finally converted after a handful of earlier missed chances. Hudson Garoni then kicked the last two for Werribee to take his tally to four, with the Bullants adding one late through 100-gamer Jean-Luc Velissaris. The result sealed a 45-point victory and a fitting end to Werribee’s season.
