At Local Level: Weekly Player Report - July 2

With Werribee enjoying a week off due to the bye, fans had the chance to turn their attention to how our players are performing across nine local leagues.

Read how the performances of the 15 Werribee players in action last weekend stacked up in the 13th edition of the 2025 Weekly Local Player Report.

Ballarat Football Netball League:

Mace Cousins - Darley
Mace Cousins returned after missing a week and was named in the best for Darley, who defeated Melton by three points in one of the finishes of the season. Tasked with a defensive assignment on one of the competition’s most dangerous small forwards, Cousins held his opponent to a single goal while collecting 21 disposals and eight marks of his own in an impressive two-way performance.

Rye Penny - Bacchus Marsh
Rye Penny made a welcome return to the Bacchus Marsh side in their 117-point win over Lake Wendouree. Despite limited minutes, he collected 12 disposals, eight of them contested, and showed off his aerial impact down back with multiple contested marks. His aggression and drive off half-back were a highlight of his day.

Isaac Nixon - Bacchus Marsh
Isaac Nixon continued his outstanding form, with his third consecutive three-goal haul. The youngster is in a great patch of form since moving up forward, having six shots on goal to go with 18 disposals and five tackles, whilst also dominating in the air with nine marks, five of them contested, in his best individual game of the season.

Goulburn Valley Football Netball League:

Dom Gugliotti - Mooroopna
In a tough day for Mooroopna, Dom Gugliotti stood tall despite a 51-point loss to Mansfield. Facing more than 60 inside 50s, he fought hard in defence and led by example with 27 disposals at an effective 85% and eight marks. He was praised for his willingness to take the game on with his kicking.

Northern Football Netball League:

Cam Wild - Hurstbridge
After playing his game of the season last week, Cam Wild carried on that form in Hurstbridge’s 11-point win over Eltham. After building towards some midfield minutes last round, he played predominantly through the midfield on Saturday and was once again a key contributor. He finished with 24 disposals (15 contested), six clearances, and again had an impact on the scoreboard with two goals.

Essendon District Football League:

Reuben Rode - Greenvale
Reuben Rode was named best on ground for Greenvale, helping guide the Jets to a massive upset win over Deer Park. Rotating between forward and midfield, Rode had an impact at both ends, collecting 26 disposals with his contested work a standout, with 13 contested possessions and six clearances, whilst also registering four shots on goal.

Hayden Gill - Deer Park
Hayden Gill was named in the best for Deer Park as they went down to Rode’s Greenvale in a hard-fought 23-point loss. Gill was on fire early, racking up 13 disposals in the first quarter and setting the tone with his effort around the contest. Playing primarily in the ruck, he worked hard all day to finish with 26 disposals, 13 contested possessions and 20 hitouts in a strong first game back since suffering his concussion on VFL debut against North Melbourne.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Jack Henderson - Barwon Heads
Jack Henderson’s day was cut short by a shoulder injury just minutes into Barwon Heads’ 44-point loss to Geelong Amateur. After getting involved early with two kicks, he briefly returned following treatment, but couldn’t continue.

Luke Preece - Drysdale
Luke Preece was rock solid in Drysdale’s 62-point win over Anglesea. Playing a lockdown role, he finished with 12 effective disposals and four rebound 50s, with his spoiling and intercept marking, finishing with three, both highlights of his performance.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Sam Allen - Old Ivanhoe
Sam Allen played his best game of the season up forward in Old Ivanhoe’s 71-point win over Old Carey. He presented well all day and was a constant threat, finishing with 18 disposals, eight marks and seven shots on goal. Allen ended with a season-best haul of four majors, that could have easily been more, before his day ended early with some hamstring tightness at three-quarter time.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Ben Kellett - South Barwon
Ben Kellett made the most of South Barwon’s 195-point thrashing of Lara with another strong outing in the ruck. The big man could do no wrong, finishing with 17 disposals at an incredible 100% efficiency. His work at the coalface was just as impressive, winning 11 contested possessions and six clearances while coming out on top in the hitouts battle.

Liam Kershaw - St. Joseph’s
Liam Kershaw’s St Joseph’s also put together a dominant triple-digit winning performance, with the young wingman showing promising signs in the win over Grovedale after making his VFL debut the previous week. He finished with 13 disposals, six contested possessions and five inside 50s in the win.

Western Football Netball League:

Wil Kliszewski - Yarraville Seddon
Wil Kliszewski made a promising return in his first game back from injury in over a month, contributing to Yarraville Seddon’s 89-point win over Parkside. The young key forward collected 10 disposals, took five marks (three contested), and impressed at times when rotating through the ruck.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Ray Murphy - Corowa-Rutherglen
Ray Murphy played one of his best games of the season in Corowa-Rutherglen’s 31-point win over Wodonga Raiders. He was clean and composed around the contest, finishing with 15 disposals and four goal involvements. His ball use and decision-making stood out as he continued to build his form.

Jedd Longmire - Corowa-Rutherglen
Jedd Longmire contributed to Corowa-Rutherglen’s strong win with 16 disposals, four tackles, three clearances and four inside 50s. He had some effective moments around stoppage and continues to stand out for his ability to drive through traffic.
