THE Werribee Football Club will begin its 2024 Smithy’s VFL campaign with an away trip against Geelong. 

The Big W will travel south to the Cattery on Saturday, March 23, with the first bounce at 2:05pm. 

After four practice matches heading into the season, this game marks the first official game under the helm of head coach Jimmy Allan. 

The remainder of the VFL fixture will be released early next week, with all teams to play 18 matches across 21 rounds.

"Facing off against an AFL-affiliated side presents a significant challenge, but it's precisely the kind of test we relish," remarked Werribee Football Manager Ash Collins. "It's an opportunity for our players to showcase their talents against top-tier competition, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead".

WERRIBEE is gearing up for an exciting pre-season, scheduled to take on crosstown rivals Williamstown, as well as the Coburg Lions, Cats, and Bulldogs, as the club ups its preparations for the 2024 Smithy’s VFL season.

The Big W’s first encounter will be at Deakin University in Geelong, where it will go head-to-head with Williamstown on February 23^rd. Under the Friday night lights, the game will kick off at 6:30PM, giving the boys their first chance to press their case for Round 1 selection in front of new Senior Coach Jimmy Allan, who will take charge for the first time.

Werribee’s next match will take place as part of the league’s second running of the Victorian standalone carnival, on the 2nd of March. Coburg, Frankston, Port Melbourne, Northern Bullants, Williamstown and Werribee will all come together at Frankston's Kinetic Stadium for a triple header.

In the third clash of the day, Werribee will take on Coburg at 3:45pm. Fast forward six days, and once again under the Friday night lights, the team will return to Deakin Stadium to face Geelong, with the first bounce at 6:30pm in the Cats' hometown.

For the final tune-up before the club’s Round 1 clash with Geelong on March 28th, Werribee will return to the west of Melbourne, with a matchup against Footscray at Whitten Oval on March 16^th, where proceedings kick off at 12:00pm.
