First Qualifying Final: Werribee vs Geelong (Home)

26 August 2024

Finals footy returns to Avalon Airport Oval for the second consecutive season, with Werribee set to face Geelong in the first qualifying final clash at midday this Saturday.

Werribee enters the finals series after clinching top spot with a hard-fought 11-point victory over Box Hill in the final round. The Tigers had an 11-game winning streak from Rounds 6 to 18, helping them to a 15-3 record and securing the club’s fifth minor premiership.

Geelong secured a top four finish with a 13 point victory over Sandringham in the last round of the season. The Cats had a much improved 2024 season, climbing from 13th place in 2023 to secure the double chance in finals with a 12-6 record.

It will be the second time these two sides have met this season after kicking off the VFL season in Round 1. After a tight first half, Werribee kicked 10 goals to three in the second half to run away 53-point winners at GMHBA Stadium. Hudson Garoni starred with four goals, which kickstarted a career best season for the star key forward, while Dom Brew (30 disposals and 15 tackles) and Jack Henderson controlled the midfield for the away side.
