The final round of the 2024 Smithy’s VFL season sees Werribee traveling to Box Hill on Sunday to face the Hawks.
Kicking off at 2:05pm, this match will be the last game of the entire VFL home and away season, giving both teams one final chance to fine-tune their strategies before heading into the finals.
The Round 21 clash takes on extra significance as the teams compete for the annual Beyond Blue Cup. This match serves as a platform to foster conversations about addressing anxiety and depression within the community.
Werribee currently sits atop the ladder with two rounds remaining and a Round 20 bye. A win against Box Hill would secure the Tigers' fifth minor premiership and their first since 2005.
Werribee comes into this clash after a 15-day break following their first loss in twelve games against Southport in Round 19.
Box Hill, on the other hand, is in fourth place and riding a three-game winning streak, and a last round win will see the Hawks lock in the double chance in finals. Their most recent match was a nail-biter, when they narrowly held off a surging GWS Giants by one point after leading by 28 points at three-quarter time.
This Round 21 match will also be the first meeting between these clubs since Werribee's qualifying final victory over Box Hill last season, where the Tigers led from start to finish, securing a 20-point win and a home preliminary final.
