At Local Level: Weekly Player Report - July 16

16 July 2024

As Werribee won our ninth game in a row against Coburg on Saturday nine Werribee players showcased their skills across six local leagues. Read how they performed in this week's Weekly Player Report:

Geelong Football Netball League:

Emmanuel Ajang - Geelong West Giants
The midfielder played well off half-back as the Giants narrowly went down to top four side Leopold. He provided run and dash off half-back and ended the afternoon with 21 disposals, three intercept marks and three tackles, having an impact offensively and defensively.

Mitch Chafer - Grovedale
While Grovedale went down to South Barwon by 67 points, Chafer continued to show form and find the goals. The versatile forward kicked two goals and found 11 disposals in the loss, which takes him to 16 goals for the season from his five games.

Charlie Byrne - Newtown & Chilwell
Byrne was named in the best as Newtown went down to the 11-1 St Mary’s. Off half-back Byrne used the ball well with his 17 disposals, which included seven contested possessions. He also took six marks, which included four excellent intercept grabs.

Ballarat Football Netball League:

Joel Cadman - Darley
Cadman returned to Darley for his first game in six weeks as the Devils defeated North Ballarat by 12 points in a Grand Final rematch. In his return game Cadman picked up 25 disposals, including 14 contested possessions, six marks, seven inside 50s and four clearances.

Essendon District Football League:

Sam Paea - Aberfeldie
Paea returned for his first game since Round 5 where he suffered a long-term shoulder injury. Coming up against the undefeated Keilor, Aberfeldie went down by ten goals, but Paea was able to impact the game aerially and finished with multiple marks and a goal as he got through the whole game successfully.

Cam McLeod - Aberfeldie
Had a solid game off half-back in the ten goal loss to Keilor. McLeod made an impact both offensively and defensively  with 17 disposals, at an effective 82%, along with six marks, including three intercept grabs, and four 1%ers.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Hamish Gilmore - Albury
Gilmore returned for his first game in two months against the Wangaratta Rovers and helped Albury to a five goal victory. The key defender was solid defensively, and ended with nine disposals at an effective 78%, in limited gametime.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Hamish Pierson - Uni Blues
Pieerson returned for his first game of footy at any level since signing for Werribee ahead of the 2024 season. Played as a deep forward with his overhead marking a clear highlight, a trait he showed in his Geelong Falcons and Vic Country games last year. Showed great competitiveness and defensive effort in the forward line in his first game back of 2024.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Jay Rantall - South Warrnambool
The new recruit played his first game for South Warrnambool after a month playing in the VFL and helped the Roosters on their way to an 11-goal win over Hamilton. Covered the ground well and his contest to contest work was a highlight as he continued to find the footy in the midfield.
