10 June 2024

Werribee head into the bye round with a win, defeating Frankston by 28 points at home.

At Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday Werribee made it five wins in a row defeating the Dolphins 13.9.87 to 8.11.59.

It was a memorable day as the club celebrated reigning Bruce Montgomery Trophy winner Dom Brew’s 100th game. The midfielder marked this milestone in classic Dom Brew style, amassing 36 disposals, 21 contested possessions, and eight tackles.

Werribee got off to the perfect start, booting two goals in the opening five minutes courtesy of Nick Hayes and Jay Dahlhaus. Zac Banch popped up for a goal, capping off a solid month of football since breaking into the side in round 8. An Aidan Johnson major on the edge of quarter time gave the Tigers a 13-point lead at the first break.

Dom Brew led all possession winners on the field in the first quarter of game 100, with 11 disposals plus a goal assist for Banch’s goal. Louis Pinnuck was everywhere with 10 disposals and seven marks while Kobe Annand was dominant in the ruck, winning 11 hitouts and laying six tackles.

Frankston had several early shots on goal in the second quarter, but it was Jay Dahlhaus who struck first. The small forward kicked his second goal after a strong contested mark. It was a scrappy quarter with just three goals kicked. The last, a sharp left-foot snap from Flynn Young, made the halftime lead 14 points.

Riley Bice had a standout quarter bringing his total to 16 disposals by halftime. In his return Daly Andrews was also impressive picking up 14 touches and four clearances.

Werribee began the second half perfectly when Jack Riding scored a running goal less than a minute into the quarter. Angus Hicks, who was having a strong game, added another shortly after. Hudson Garoni booted back to back goals and with a four goal to one quarter, the Werribee lead was a more comfortable 34 points at three quarter time.

Frankston kicked the first two goals of the last quarter, but key forward Hudson Garoni was able to stem the flow and calmly convert a set shot for his third goal of the day. Werribee’s leading goalkickers Garoni and Dahlhaus each added one more ending the afternoon with four and three goals respectively.Garoni ended the clash sitting third in the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal at the halfway point of the season.

Brew led all possession winners in his milestone game with Louis Pinnuck, who has been in great form, not far behind with 29 disposals and a huge 16 marks. Jack Henderson is relishing his midfield role and picked up another 25 disposals and five marks.

Defender Jesse Clark enjoyed career highs in both disposals and marks, with the defender gathering 21 disposals and 14 marks. Additionally, Jack Riding had another two goal assists to take his season tally to 12 as he continues to lead the competition in the stat.
