Werribee Go Fifth on Ladder with 52-point Win at Vic Park

20 May 2024

Werribee make it back-to-back wins with a commanding 52-point victory over Collingwood.

Returning to play football at Victoria Park, a strong start set up victory for Werribee, running away with a 15.10.100 to 6.12.48 victory.

Defender Louis Pinnuck snuck his way forward for a long-distance effort to get Werribee started with Flynn Young’s snap quickly following to continue his impressive form in front of the big sticks.

A stoppage goal from Angus Hicks gave Werribee a dream start and Jay Dahlhaus’ first of the afternoon making it a 13-point margin at quarter time.

Dom Brew shows no signs of slowing down from his impressive start to the season with eight first quarter disposals, and Jaelen Pavlidis was strong in the backline with an equal game-high eight touches.

Five unanswered goals to start the second quarter gave Werribee a comfortable 41-point lead at half time. Angus Hicks and Jay Dahlhaus each had two goals by the main break and Jack Riding also hit the scoreboard to go with 13 first-half disposals.

Nick Hayes in his 50th game was enjoying his milestone,  firstly converting a return set-shot goal before flying high for a mark to set up debutant Zac Banch’s first goal.

Jack Henderson lead the way with 14 disposals at half-time, while eight players had over 10 disposals in an even team performance for Werribee.

Small forwards dominated the third quarter Dahlhaus kicked two more to take him to four goals for the match and an equal team-high 13 for the season. A running goal late in the quarter was the second for debutant  Zac Banch carrying over his form from the Point Cook Centrals.

Taking a 57-point lead into three quarter time, Werribee conceded the first two goals of the last quarter. However Harry Grintell put the icing on the cake with a snap from the boundary, and Hudson Garoni maintained his streak of scoring in every game this season with a set shot after the final siren to make it a 52-point victory.

Dom Brew ended the day the leading disposal getter with 28 which included 13 clearances and six tackles. Kye Declase and Jack Riding both found plenty of the ball with 24 and 23 disposals respectively.

Bior Malual was class all day off half-back with 22 disposals, going at 92% by foot, and Angus Hicks continued his strong form with another two goals in his 22-disposal performance to take his tally to nine for the season.

Kobe Annand also stood up all day in the ruck, winning 42 hitouts, four clearances and four tackles.
