Werribee faced arch rival Williamstown in an Anzac Day clash in challenging conditions at DSV Stadium.

After a tight tussle early Williamstown enjoyed a 52-point victory 15.11.101 to Werribee's 7.7.49.

Angus Hicks continued his good form kicking the first goal of the ANZAC Day clash. Corey Preston, playing against his former side, kicked a running goal from 50 metres and Werribee went into quarter time trailing by three points.

However kicking with the wind in the second quarter Williamstown dominated with twelve goals to one.  Jack Riding stemming the flow just before half-time. Williamstown took a 53-point lead into the main break.

The third quarter was a highly contested battle with Jack Riding’s second major of the afternoon the solitary goal.

Angus Hicks kicked his second snapping goal of the match to kick off the last quarter. His 18 disposals and 6 clearances an effort which saw him named the Totally Workwear Player of the Round. In the late stages of the match Hudson Garoni continued his streak of kicking a goal in every match of the season, and Emmanual Ajang hit the scoreboard for the first time in 2024.

In Nick Coughlan’s absence Dom Brew stood up as captain with 25 disposals and 13 tackles. Jack Riding’s two goals went with 17 disposals, eight tackles and five marks, in what was his best game of the 2024 season thus far.

Werribee, after a strong start to the season, still boast a healthy 3-2 record going into Carlton at home next round.
