At Local Level: Weekly Player Report - May 20
23 May 2023
There were some key contributions by Werribee players at local level on the weekend in a mix of big wins and close losses with many guys continuing to push their case for a VFL berth.
GEELONG FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Matt Keast - St Mary’s (Local Player of the Week)
Best on ground in a big win over Lara with 29 disposals and four goals. All his goals came from set shots as he snuck inside 50 unmarked. Was clean in a game that many of his teammates struggled.
Emmanuel Ajang - Geelong West
A solid contributor as the Giants held on to beat South Barwon by three points. Impressed with his inside game with 12 of his 19 disposals contested and was important defensively with nine tackles.
Charlie Byrne – Newtown & Chilwell
Back after two weeks out with injury and played his part in a thumping of North Shore. Played on both flanks and finished with 14 disposals, six marks and a couple of goals in the 112-point win.
Cam Anderson - North Shore
Found the going tough against an undefeated Newtown & Chilwell but contributed with one of the Seagulls’ three goals in their Round 6 loss.
ESSENDON DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Lachlan Smart - Deer Park
Amongst the best for the Lions as they fell agonisingly short of a come-from-behind win against Rupertswood. Had 17 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles and three goals in the one-point loss.
Darcy Cassar - Keilor
His athleticism and speed when in possession stood out as the Bulldogs separating themselves from East Keilor with a 69-point triumph. Collected 18 disposals with five inside 50s, five tackles and goal.
Josh Porter - Greenvale
Another good showing splitting his time forward and in the ruck. Had 24 disposals, 10 marks, and three goals as the Jets triumphed for the third straight week with a win over Maribyrnong Park.
Cam McLeod - Avondale Heights
Played on the wing all day and tallied 20 disposals, five marks and three tackles. Also produced some strong defensive efforts in a heavy defeat to Strathmore.
WESTERN REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Michael Selsby - Yarraville Seddon
Found plenty of footy again as the Eagles recorded their first win of the year. Collected 34 disposals with half of those contested, 10 marks and seven clearances in the narrow victory over Point Cook Centrals.
Akol Deng - Yarraville Seddon
Was challenged by his opposite number early on but adjusted his play and had some crucial wins around the stoppages late in the game. Finished with 46 hit-outs (18 to advantage) and 13 disposals in the six-point win.
VICTORIAN AMATUER FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Zayne Galea - Williamstown CYMS
Played well in a disappointing loss to Old Geelong after leading by close to four goals at halftime. Had some good intercept marks, five in total. Ended the day with 20 disposals, nine marks and three tackles.
