AFLW is coming to Werribee.

After an exciting first season in partnership with North Melbourne's VFLW side in 2025, the partnership has gone from strength to strength in 2026, with North Melbourne Werribee sitting on top of the Smithy's VFLW ladder after nine rounds. And now, Werribee fans will once again be treated to some North Melbourne AFLW action this weekend.

Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval is set to host an AFLW practice match this Saturday, July 25, with reigning premiers North Melbourne taking on Essendon in their third pre-season hitout ahead of the 2026 AFLW season.

With Werribee's VFL side having the bye, it's the perfect chance to get behind women's football in our community.

The North Melbourne Kangaroos enter Saturday's clash after an encouraging pre-season campaign, having defeated Richmond in match simulation before another hitout against Collingwood last weekend. Saturday's practice match will provide another important test as the Kangaroos continue their preparations for their premiership defence, which begins against Geelong in Round 1.

Essendon will also be looking to continue building towards the new season after finishing with a 4-8 record in 2025.

From 10.30am, fans can watch some of the AFLW's biggest stars in action, while North Melbourne's Roo Squad will also be on hand with plenty of activities for the kids, including face painting, a colouring station, sensory activities and the chance to meet club mascot Ruby.
