Werribee will play its first and only Sunday home game of the 2026 season this weekend when Port Melbourne visits Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

The Round 17 clash gets underway at 2:05pm on Sunday, July 19, with Werribee looking to extend its unbeaten run to eight matches.

The match also marks the club's annual Past Players & Officials Day, with Werribee looking forward to welcoming back plenty of familiar faces to celebrate the rich history of the black and gold.

Werribee heads into the clash full of confidence after last Saturday's unforgettable one-point victory over St Kilda, sealed by Tom Simpson's goal after the siren.

Speaking to Werribee's media team after the match, Simpson admitted he had "never been more nervous in my entire life" before the kick that secured the dramatic win.

Remarkably, Simpson's match-winner came at the very same venue as Werribee's previous after-the-siren winning goal. Thirty-three years earlier, Jack Aziz kicked his sixth goal after the siren in the 1993 preliminary final at Moorabbin to send Werribee into its first-ever VFL Grand Final.

In another incredible twist of fate, Werribee then met Port Melbourne the following week and defeated the Borough to claim the club's first premiership, making Simpson's heroics at RSEA Park an extraordinary piece of club history.

The victory over St Kilda was Werribee's seventh consecutive win, while a draw against Tasmania the week before means the reigning premiers haven't tasted defeat since their Round 6 meeting with Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium.

That sets the stage for another huge contest, with Port Melbourne sitting fifth on the VFL ladder with a 9-5 record, six premiership points behind second-placed Werribee.

The Borough also enters the clash in strong form after recording its third straight victory, defeating Sandringham by 11 points last weekend following wins over Gold Coast and Casey.
