At VFL level, Werribee heads into the mid-season bye with four consecutive victories and sitting second on the Smithy’s VFL ladder following Saturday’s 26-point win over Brisbane.

At local level, 19 Werribee-listed players were in action across Victoria on a weekend of wet and challenging conditions, while several key players also returned from injury. Josh Kellett, Josh Sanders and Tom Cappellari all made successful comebacks, while Daly Andrews played his first match in 305 days.

Western Football Netball League:

Daly Andrews - Yarraville Seddon Eagles
Andrews could hardly have asked for a better return to football, collecting 23 disposals, 16 contested possessions, seven clearances, eight tackles and two goals in Yarraville Seddon's 31-point win over Albion. Playing his first game in 305 days since Werribee's Round 21 clash against Northern Bullants last season, Andrews showed plenty of encouraging signs after returning from five months working overseas and completing a late and interrupted pre-season. Playing just 60% game time in his return, the midfielder still made a significant impact around the contest. Andrews was also presented his Yarraville Seddon debut guernsey pre-game by former Werribee player Michael Selsby.

Wil Kliszewski - Yarraville Seddon Eagles
Kliszewski continued his outstanding form in front of goal, backing up his four-goal performance before the bye with five majors in the Eagles' win over Albion. Named among the best players, the key forward finished with 13 disposals, four marks, including three contested grabs, and eight score involvements. His aerial presence proved difficult to contain throughout the afternoon as he played a major role in the victory.

Josh Kellett - Werribee Districts
Returning from the knee injury he suffered in Round 4 of the VFL season, Kellett made a successful comeback despite Werribee Districts falling by seven points to Sunshine. Named among the best players, the defender gathered 17 disposals and four tackles while looking comfortable throughout his first game back. His ball use and ability to launch counter attacks from defence were important features in difficult conditions.

Rani Pavlidis - Werribee Districts
Pavlidis battled hard in a physical and congested contest against Sunshine. The small forward finished with nine disposals, eight contested possessions, five tackles and a goal, while also hitting the post with another scoring opportunity. Never shying away from the physicality, Pavlidis competed strongly throughout the afternoon and looked dangerous whenever the ball hit the ground inside 50.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Eli Pearce - Bell Park
Pearce produced one of the standout performances of the weekend in Bell Park's 63-point victory over South Barwon. Splitting his time between the ruck and midfield, Pearce amassed 28 disposals, 14 contested possessions, eight clearances, seven inside 50s, 15 hitouts and even hit the scoreboard for two goals. His work rate around the ground and ability to impact both in the air and at ground level were instrumental in the win.

Liam Kershaw - St Joseph's
Named among the best players, Kershaw continued his strong season in St Joseph's 24-point win over St Albans. The versatile defender gathered 21 disposals and eight marks while again providing composure behind the ball. His ability to impact both in defence and on the wing continues to be a valuable asset for the Joeys.

Jack Mullen - St Joseph's
Mullen enjoyed an improved outing in St Joseph's victory, finishing with 18 disposals, 10 contested possessions, seven inside 50s and seven score involvements. The forward remained heavily involved in the Joeys' attacking chains and played an important role in generating opportunities inside 50.

Josh Sanders - St Mary's
Sanders made a solid return from injury in St Mary's 20-point win over Grovedale. Playing his first game since May 9 and just his third appearance of the season, Sanders collected 12 disposals at an incredible 100% efficiency, which included nine contested possessions. Strong in one-on-one contests and reliable with ball in hand, Sanders worked his way into the game well after an extended stint on the sidelines.

Riddell District Football Netball League:

Nash King - Wallan
King was outstanding as Wallan maintained its unbeaten start to the season with a 23-point win over Romsey. Returning after two weeks without football, the midfielder racked up 37 disposals, 20 contested possessions, 13 clearances, nine score involvements and seven tackles in a dominant display. The win improved Wallan to 8-0 and kept the club on top of the ladder.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Archer Hanegraaf - Geelong Amateurs
Hanegraaf continued his excellent first senior season in Geelong Amateurs' massive 117-point victory over Surf Coast. Named among the best players, the young midfielder gathered 29 disposals at 86% efficiency, eight clearances, nine score involvements and seven marks. His cleanliness around the contest and ability to win the ball in traffic again stood out in slippery conditions.

Tom Webster - Newcomb
After kicking three goals in each of his previous two matches, Webster returned to defence and excelled in Newcomb's 14-point win over Torquay. Named among the best players, Webster collected 23 disposals and led the backline superbly throughout the afternoon. Tasked with a more defensive role, he embraced the challenge and helped guide Newcomb to an important victory.

Essendon District Football League:

Tom Cappellari - Doutta Stars
Cappellari marked his return from injury with a strong performance in Doutta Stars' 42-point win over Greenvale. Playing his first game in more than a month, he gathered 19 disposals, four clearances and five inside 50s while providing plenty of drive around the contest. It was an encouraging return after an extended period on the sidelines.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Mitch Lloyd - University Blues
Lloyd starred in University Blues' 19-point victory over Old Brighton with one of the best defensive performances of the weekend. The key defender finished with 21 disposals, 11 marks, including four contested grabs, and 12 intercept possessions. In conditions where clean ball use was at a premium, Lloyd's decision making and composure under pressure were exceptional as he was named among the best players.

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
Miller continued to build form despite Williamstown CYMS' loss to De La Salle. Playing exclusively as a forward, he finished with 12 disposals, two goals and five score involvements. His contested work and ability to keep the ball inside the forward half were important features of an improved performance.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Tylar Watts - Portland
Watts was enormous in Portland's 12-point victory over Cobden, finishing with an extraordinary 75 hitouts, 10 hitouts to advantage, 10 tackles and 19 disposals. Named among the best players, the ruckman battled through difficult conditions for key position players and continued to compete strongly throughout the day. His dominance in the ruck was a major factor in the win, while his 10 tackles and 19 disposals highlighted his ability to impact well beyond the stoppages.

Archie Taylor - Cobden
Taylor's pressure was a standout despite Cobden going down to Watts' Portland Tigers by 12 points. The midfielder recorded 17 disposals, 11 contested possessions and an outstanding 15 tackles in muddy conditions. While the weather limited his ability to showcase his usual flair, Taylor still found a way to impact the contest and was relentless with his defensive pressure.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Foster Gardiner - North Albury
Gardiner produced his best game of the season despite North Albury's loss to Wangaratta. Named among the best players, the defender collected 19 disposals and 11 intercept possessions while consistently reading the play well behind the ball. His ability to leave his opponent and impact aerial contests was a major feature of the performance.

Cooper Hall - Lavington
Hall helped Lavington secure a five-point win over Corowa-Rutherglen, finishing with 12 disposals, seven contested possessions and five clearances after spending the entire afternoon through the midfield. After a quieter opening three quarters, Hall worked his way into the contest and played an important role in the final term as Lavington held on in a tight finish.

Wimmera Football League:

Cody Bryan - Horsham Saints
Bryan played his role in Horsham Saints' 44-point victory over Dimboola. The big man spent the afternoon in the backline, gathering 14 disposals and four marks while handling the wet conditions well. His defensive work and willingness to compete were important factors in the Saints' win.
