At VFL level, Werribee piled on 27 goals in a 60-point victory over Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday to record a second consecutive win. The result lifted Werribee into the top four for the first time under coach Daniel Lowther and saw the club sit inside the top four at the halfway point of a season for the first time since claiming the premiership in 2024.

It was another strong weekend at local level too, with Werribee-listed players continuing to produce standout performances across Victoria. Multiple players earned best-on-ground honours, several hit the scoreboard in big ways and a number of young guns continued building impressive cases for VFL selection.

Western Football Netball League:

Wil Kliszewski - Yarraville Seddon
Kliszewski produced one of the standout performances of the weekend as Yarraville Seddon stormed home with nine final-quarter goals to hand Werribee Districts its first loss of the season. The key forward was dominant with 19 disposals, eight marks, including four contested grabs, four goals and 12 score involvements, while also spending periods in the ruck. Kliszewski competed strongly throughout the afternoon, with his contested marking a significant feature, while his impact on the scoreboard and defensive pressure earned strong praise in a match-winning display.

Rani Pavlidis - Werribee Districts
On the other side of the matchup with fellow Werribee-listed player Wil Kliszewski, Pavlidis continued his strong season despite Werribee Districts falling by 16 points in one of the highest-quality WFNL games of the season. The small forward finished with 12 disposals, six contested possessions, six score involvements and a classy goal while again applying strong defensive pressure. Pavlidis continues to thrive in his role, finding teammates by hand in close and producing several important inside 50 tackles as he once again delivered a composed and effective performance.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Luke Preece - Drysdale
Preece backed up his outstanding return from injury with another dominant performance despite Drysdale falling to Torquay. Named best-on-ground for the Hawks, the defender collected 25 disposals, six marks, seven tackles and nine intercept possessions while continuing to control the game from half back. Preece was excellent both defensively and offensively, setting the ground up with his ball use and defensive rebounds while again showing the composure and leadership that have become trademarks of his game. The performance came in just his second game back after an injury-interrupted start to the year.

Tom Webster - Newcomb
Webster showed his versatility in Newcomb’s 14-point loss to Portarlington. After beginning the day in defence, the key position player was swung forward and immediately made an impact, finishing with three goals from 16 disposals and eight marks. The move proved a masterstroke, with Webster becoming a dangerous target inside 50 as he earned best player honours and kicked his first goals of the season.

Archer Hanegraaf - Geelong Amateurs
Hanegraaf continued his impressive first season of senior football in Geelong Amateurs’ 43-point win over Anglesea. Named among the best players, the young midfielder collected 19 disposals, 13 contested possessions, five clearances and six tackles in a strong inside performance. Hanegraaf was particularly impressive around the contest, showing clean hands and composure against mature bodies while continuing to prove he belongs at senior level.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Myles McCluggage - South Warrnambool
McCluggage produced another outstanding display in South Warrnambool’s 34-point victory over Hamilton. Named among the best players for the fourth time this season, the midfielder gathered 24 disposals, five clearances, seven tackles and a goal while helping drive his side to victory in wet conditions. His balance between winning the ball, applying pressure and leading South Warrnambool’s midfield group stood out strongly in another complete performance.

Tylar Watts - Portland
Watts continued his excellent season in Portland’s 45-point win over Camperdown. The ruckman dominated the stoppages with 45 hitouts, including 14 to advantage, while also contributing 18 disposals, four clearances, four tackles and a goal. Watts’ ability to provide his midfielders with first use remains a major strength, while his work around the ground continued to impact strongly in another best-player performance.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Liam Kershaw - St Joseph’s
Kershaw produced one of his strongest performances of the season as St Joseph’s snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with three goals in the final two minutes to defeat Colac. Named among the best players, Kershaw gathered 22 disposals at 82% efficiency, along with 12 contested possessions, five marks and six intercept possessions. Calm under pressure and strong around the contest, Kershaw looked a class above throughout the afternoon while playing a key role in the dramatic comeback victory.

Jack Mullen - St Joseph’s
Mullen also played an important role in St Joseph’s thrilling win, finishing with 15 disposals, five marks and two goals, including one of the match-winning majors during the frantic final minutes. The forward showcased his strength around the contest and ability to create moments of brilliance, while continuing to build continuity after an injury-interrupted start to his season.

Micah Robb - Colac
Robb was among Colac’s best despite finding himself on the wrong side of St Joseph’s remarkable late comeback. Playing exclusively as a high half forward, Robb collected 20 disposals, 10 contested possessions, five marks and eight tackles in a strong two-way performance. His pressure and work rate were outstanding throughout the afternoon, helping create opportunities for teammates while maintaining his impressive run of form.

Ballarat Football League:

Tom Simpson - Ballarat Swans
Simpson delivered a best-on-ground performance in Ballarat’s 55-point victory over Bacchus Marsh. Starting on a wing before moving inside, the midfielder amassed 29 disposals, 10 tackles, four clearances, two goals and 13 score involvements in a complete display. Simpson’s contest work, pressure and ball use all stood out as he continued his excellent season with another dominant performance.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Mitch Lloyd - University Blues
Lloyd responded strongly after a disappointing team defensive performance the previous week, playing a key role in University Blues’ 65-point win over Old Scotch. Named among the best players, the defender collected 23 disposals at 83% efficiency and an outstanding 15 marks, including five intercept grabs. Lloyd rarely lost a one-on-one contest and repeatedly intercepted opposition attacks, while his ability to provide valuable re-entries from behind the ball proved a major feature of the performance.

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
Miller showed his versatility despite Williamstown CYMS suffering a 30-point loss to Old Camberwell. Splitting his time between the forward line and midfield, Miller finished with 16 disposals and a goal while helping spark a fightback through the middle stages of the game. His run and carry around the contest were important features, while several strong clearance involvements highlighted his impact when moved into the midfield.

Goulburn Valley Football League:

Anthony Depasquale - Kyabram
Depasquale continued his strong season despite Kyabram suffering a six-point loss to Shepparton United. The key forward finished with 19 disposals, 10 marks, including four contested grabs, and three goals, while also recording six score involvements. Depasquale looked dangerous throughout the afternoon and could easily have finished with an even bigger haul after creating plenty of opportunities inside 50. His aerial presence again stood out strongly as one of Kyabram’s primary attacking threats.

Wimmera Football League:

Cody Bryan - Horsham Saints
After spending the past fortnight playing in defence, Bryan returned to the ruck and made an immediate impact in Horsham Saints’ 13-point win over Stawell. The young big man collected 24 disposals, 26 hitouts and 12 contested possessions while also contributing six score involvements. Bryan competed strongly throughout the day and looked comfortable back in the role, providing his midfielders with quality service around the stoppages.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Foster Gardiner - North Albury
Gardiner continued building consistency across half back in North Albury’s heartbreaking one-point loss to Myrtleford. The defender finished with 17 disposals, seven tackles, seven intercept possessions and five one-percenters while again showing strong defensive intent. Gardiner’s professionalism and team-first attitude continue to stand out despite balancing commitments between Werribee and North Albury throughout the season, while his ability to defend strongly has helped him put together a solid run of form.

Nick Newton - Lavington
Newton showed some promising moments despite Lavington falling to Albury by 16 points. The defender gathered 18 disposals, six marks and five tackles while also contributing six score involvements. His ability to impact aerial contests and provide drive from defence again stood out strongly throughout the afternoon.

Cooper Hall - Lavington
Hall played a deeper forward role and made the most of his opportunities, finishing with two goals and five tackles in Lavington’s loss to Albury. While quieter than some of his recent performances, Hall continued to compete strongly around the contest and produced several important moments inside 50, including a pair of quality goals.
