Werribee will be looking to make it three wins in a row for the first time under coach Daniel Lowther when they return home to face Coburg in Round 11 of the Smithy’s VFL season.

The Saturday afternoon clash gets underway at 2:05pm at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval, with Werribee hosting its annual FightMND themed match day and fundraiser.

With the Western Football Netball League enjoying a league-wide bye this weekend, supporters are encouraged to wear their local club colours and will receive free entry to Saturday’s match.

It will be the first meeting between the two sides since Round 17 last season, when Werribee travelled to Barry Plant Park and came away with a 20-point victory.

Werribee enters the clash in strong form after an emphatic 60-point win over Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday. The 27.12.174 to 18.6.114 victory saw Daniel Lowther’s side move to 5-3-1 and rise into the top four for the first time this season.

The 174-point return was Werribee’s highest score since the final round of the 2022 season, with Brady Wright leading the way with a career-high six goals. Sam Donegan (32 disposals, 10 clearances), Jack Riding (27 disposals, three goals) and Dom Brew (27 disposals, eight clearances and nine tackles) were also instrumental in the victory.

Coburg arrives at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval with plenty of momentum of its own, having won four consecutive matches. The Lions defeated Williamstown by 18 points last weekend and currently sit eighth on the ladder.

Saturday’s match will also see Werribee continue its support of FightMND, with players to wear FightMND socks in honour of the late Neale Daniher.

The club's annual FightMND fundraiser President’s Function, proudly organised by a number of Neale’s former 1991 Werribee teammates, will be held pre-match and feature guest speakers, auctions and FightMND beanies available for purchase. Tickets are available for the function here.
