In the engine room, Sam Donegan was everywhere with a match-high 32 disposals to go along with his eight tackles and 10 clearances. Alongside him, Dom Brew was superb, providing his usual toughness in the contest with eight clearances from his 27 disposals, along with nine tackles and a goal.

Jack Riding was everywhere, from being a scoring threat and hitting the scoreboard with three goals, to dominating in the midfield, racking up 27 touches and laying 10 tackles.

Xavier Ivisic got Werribee off to a flyer, with a right-foot snap out of the stoppage opening the account for the Tigers.

On his non-preferred foot, Cooper Whyte provided some class, picking up the footy while running towards the boundary and snapping a left-foot goal.

In his 50th match for Werribee, Jack Riding slotted through a running goal from 40 metres out for his first of the day, after getting on the end of some silky link-up play from half-back.

Werribee’s first-quarter dominance continued as Noah Tullio and Brady Wright made the most of their opportunities inside 50, making it five Werribee goals for the quarter.

Jesse Clark popped up for his first goal in 700 days as he kicked truly from a set shot, piling on the pain for the Bombers.

Werribee dominated territory in the first quarter with 16 inside 50s to Essendon’s seven, while also scoring seven goals to four to take a 34-point lead into the first change.

Winning the centre clearance, Werribee worked the ball forward, ending in the hands of Riding, who snapped through his second goal of the day on his right boot.

Massimo Raso pounced on an Essendon defensive kick, turning the ball over and lining up a set shot, which he would go on to convert.

Essendon opened the second term strongly, kicking eight goals in the quarter, but Tullio laced out Wright on the lead, who would go on to convert the set shot for his second major of the day.

With Essendon kicking eight goals in the second quarter, Dom Brew stemmed the flow, pouncing on the loose ball and steadying on the run to bounce through a goal.

The tide turned in the second quarter as Essendon cut down the lead, kicking eight goals to four and reducing the margin to 13 points at the main break.

Riding provided some magic, kicking a left-foot dribbler while running towards the boundary line, making it three goals on the day.

Jordan Busuttil brought up his first goal for Werribee in style, wrenching the footy from the stoppage and launching from beyond the 50-metre arc.

Lachlan Charleson made the most of his opportunity inside 50, gathering the loose ball and snapping through another major.

Busuttil continued the Werribee third-quarter onslaught, wheeling out to the right from a set shot and launching a 50-metre bomb straight through the big sticks for his second.

Brew connected with Elliott on the lead, who would go on to kick his second goal of the day while making it six goals on the trot for Werribee.

Number two for Tullio came through some classy crumbing work, as he gathered the loose ball and kicked a banana from directly in front.

One, two, three in a row for Wright, making it a career-high five goals and extending Werribee’s lead to 56 points.

Make it six for Wright. After being awarded a free kick, Wright kicked through another major, making it four consecutive goals for the tall forward.

Continuing Werribee’s dominance, Ajang Kuol Mun sealed an incredible third term for Werribee, roosting a 60-metre drop punt goal.

Werribee finished the third term by doubling their goal count for the quarter, kicking 11 goals while restricting Essendon’s ball movement and limiting them to just two goals, leaving Werribee with a 71-point lead heading into the final term.

Charleson continued the avalanche, slotting through his second goal from a set shot, then minutes later setting up Louis Pinnuck on the run from the 50-metre arc for a delightful finish.

Werribee went coast to coast, ending in the hands of Busuttil for his third goal after Tullio, with some fancy footwork, found him in space.

Charlie Lazzaro came to the goalkicking party late, sending a drop punt over the goal umpire’s hat from directly in front.

Elliott made a good day even better. Awarded a free kick on the boundary, Elliott curled through his third major.

Werribee finished the match kicking an astonishing 174 points from 27 goals to run away as 60-point winners against Essendon.

Werribee will now turn their attention to a home clash against Coburg at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, June 6 at 2:05pm.
