The Werribee Football Club advises that Jack Fitzpatrick has accepted a new coaching opportunity for the 2020 season with the Western Bulldogs AFLW program.
In his two years at Avalon Airport Oval Jack has made a lasting impression on and off the field, in roles including match day runner, host of the club’s Player of the Week video and of course as ruck coach and assistant midfield coach.
The chemistry between Jack and Michael Barlow working together under the guidance of Mark Williams helped produce one of the most prolific engine rooms in the competition.
Football Manager Stuart Balloch reflects fondly on Fitzpatrick’s time at Avalon Airport Oval:
“It has been an absolute pleasure having Jack involved in our program and firstly we want to say thanks and acknowledge his efforts. Sitting down with him two years ago we created a role that would enable him to get a start in the coaching space. Jack’s progression from specialist ruck coach/runner to his ruck/midfield line role this season no doubt was a springboard into this next chapter.”
Balloch noted the importance of Fitzpatrick’s connection with the club’s youth.
“He has been able to impart his AFL experience on our young group which is invaluable, and his contribution over the past two seasons as we continue to build has assisted our program’s growth. While disappointing to lose a member of the group, we are thrilled that he has received this next opportunity in his coaching career.”
Fitzpatrick will take much from his time at Avalon Airport Oval.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Werribee for the past two seasons - administrators, staff, volunteers and players. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and it’s hard to say goodbye; it feels like we’ve been on a journey together since becoming stand-alone, and it’s tough knowing I won’t be able to see that through.”
“I truly believe the Club is on the verge of something special, and I cannot wait to watch from afar as the playing group goes on to achieve great things, both individually and collectively.”
With Fitzpatrick’s departure and Jeff Andrews’ appointment as Central District’s senior coach in the SANFL, the club has added Tom Perrett to its 2020 coaching panel and will announce a new development coach shortly.
