As Werribee and Tasmania played out one of the best VFL games you’re likely to watch this season in Saturday’s thrilling draw at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval, 17 Werribee-listed players were also in action across local football around the state.

Strong performances continued to come from all corners, with players representing the club across 10 different leagues as they continue pushing their case for selection and the chance to become player #1000 in Werribee Football Club history.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Tom Webster - Newcomb
Webster continued his outstanding form with another dominant display despite Newcomb falling by 24 points to Queenscliff. Once again matched up on the opposition’s best key forwards, Webster produced a brilliant two-way performance, finishing with 32 disposals, 10 marks, 11 rebound 50s and eight intercept possessions. His ability to both defend strongly and launch attacks from the back half continually stood out, with the defender named among the best for the second consecutive week.

Archer Hanegraaf - Geelong Amateurs
Playing his first game since Round 1 of the Bellarine Football Netball League season, Hanegraaf made a strong return in Geelong Amateur’s 22-point win over Ocean Grove. The midfielder collected 19 disposals, six marks, four clearances and a game-high nine tackles, while also driving the ball forward with five inside 50s. His pressure and contested work around the ball stood out throughout the afternoon.

Bendigo Football Netball League:

Zane Keighran - Strathfieldsaye
Keighran continued his impressive form in Strathfieldsaye’s hard-fought seven-point win over Eaglehawk. Named among the best once again, the classy defender finished with 31 disposals, nine marks and seven intercept possessions. It marked back-to-back games with 30-plus disposals since returning from injury, with his intercept work and ball use again standing out in a tight contest between two strong sides.

Ballarat Football Netball League:

Tom Simpson - Ballarat Swans
Simpson was dominant in Ballarat’s 55-point win over East Point, producing a strong all-round midfield display on return to the Swans after a stretch of games at VFL level. The midfielder finished with 30 disposals, 15 contested possessions, eight tackles, a goal and a game-high 11 score involvements. His tackle pressure and ball use were major strengths throughout the afternoon as he played his role strongly in the big win.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Cooper Whyte - Grovedale
Despite Grovedale suffering a 64-point loss to Bell Park, Whyte impressed in his first game back at local level after five straight games at VFL level. The inside midfielder was named among the best after collecting 25 disposals, eight clearances and five intercept possessions in a strong all-round display. His contested work and ability to win the ball at stoppage were standout features of the classy midfielder’s game throughout the afternoon.

Jack Mullen - St Joseph’s
In his first official game of the season after suffering an injury in a pre-season match, Mullen showed positive signs despite St Joseph’s 65-point loss to St Mary’s. The forward finished with two goals and three score involvements in limited game time up forward, looking dangerous whenever involved around goal.

Liam Kershaw - St Joseph’s
Alongside fellow Werribee-listed player Jack Mullen in St Joseph’s 65-point loss to St Mary’s, Kershaw had started strongly across half back before his day was interrupted by concussion around half time. Prior to that, he had been one of St Joseph’s better players early, finding plenty of the football and competing strongly to finish with 22 disposals, four marks and five rebound 50s from a half of football.

Josh Sanders - St Mary’s
Returning for his first game since Round 1, Sanders lined up against fellow Werribee-listed players Jack Mullen and Liam Kershaw on the weekend. However, his afternoon unfortunately came to an early end after suffering a calf injury in the first quarter after just three touches.

Micah Robb - Colac
Robb was highly influential in Colac’s 31-point win over St Albans, named as best on ground after booting four goals. Spending most of the afternoon across half forward before rotating through the midfield later in quarters, Robb continually impacted the contest whenever involved. He finished with 15 disposals, seven marks, five tackles and six score involvements to go with his four majors on the scoreboard.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Archie Taylor - Cobden
Taylor’s exceptional first season of senior football continued despite Cobden suffering a loss to North Warrnambool. The young midfielder was once again named among the best after gathering 23 disposals, six clearances, five tackles and two goals. His pressure and work around stoppage again stood out, while his ability to combine toughness on the inside with polish on the outside continues to impress week after week.

Tylar Watts - Portland
Watts delivered another impressive all-round ruck performance despite Portland’s loss to Warrnambool Blues. The big man finished with 24 disposals, 16 hitouts and two goals, while also using the ball efficiently around the ground in another strong display.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
Miller played a crucial role in Williamstown CYMS’ dramatic seven-point come-from-behind win over Beaumaris. The forward kicked two final quarter goals, including the sealer, to finish with three goals for the game. Miller also spent time through the midfield during the third quarter to provide a different look around stoppage, finishing with 18 disposals, six marks and six score involvements in a highly impactful performance.

Wimmera Football Netball League:

Cody Bryan - Horsham Saints
Bryan produced another encouraging display in Horsham Saints’ 26-point win over Nhill, this time spending much of the afternoon in defence. Named among the best, the big man provided plenty of run and carry from the back half to finish with 20 disposals, eight rebound 50s and 15 kicks at 80% efficiency, to go with 16 hitouts when pinch hitting in the ruck, in an impressive showing in a different role.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Foster Gardiner - North Albury
After playing at Newcomb while North Albury had the bye last week, Gardiner impressed back with North Albury in the side’s 54-point win over Wodonga Raiders. Playing across half back, he defended strongly while also finding plenty of the football, finishing with 17 disposals and six tackles in another solid defensive performance.

Cooper Hall - Lavington
Hall spent time in a new high forward role during Lavington’s 23-point loss to Wangaratta Rovers. While still learning the structure and positioning of the role, Hall’s pressure and tackling intensity remained a strong feature throughout the afternoon as he finished with nine disposals, five tackles and a goal.

Nick Newton - Lavington
Despite Lavington suffering a 23-point loss to Wangaratta Rovers, Newton showed promising signs with his run and carry from half back proving important throughout the afternoon. The defender gathered 24 disposals, four marks and a game-high seven rebound 50s, continually looking dangerous when able to break lines and gain territory with ball in hand in another encouraging outing.

Western Football Netball League:

Rani Pavlidis - Werribee Districts
After a strong start to the season, Pavlidis faced increased opposition attention in Werribee Districts’ 38-point win over Albion. Although quieter than previous weeks statistically, the small forward still worked hard to get involved around the contest and finished with nine disposals. His afternoon unfortunately ended early after suffering an ankle injury in the final quarter.
