While it was a tough afternoon for Werribee at VFL level with a loss to Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium, there were still plenty of strong performances produced by Werribee-listed players across local football over the weekend.

Eighteen players represented the club across 11 different leagues, with Anthony Depasquale’s remarkable 10-goal haul headlining a number of standout displays as players continue pushing their case for selection, with several names also continuing their push to become player #1000 in Werribee Football Club history.

Goulburn Valley Football Netball League:

Anthony Depasquale - Kyabram
Depasquale produced one of the most dominant individual performances of the local weekend in Kyabram’s 126-point demolition of Euroa, booting a remarkable 10 goals in the reigning premiers’ bounce-back win that moved them back inside the top four after Round 5. Playing exclusively inside forward 50, Depasquale finished with 24 disposals, 12 marks and a staggering 17 score involvements, repeatedly finding dangerous spots inside 50 and proving impossible to contain as he was named best on ground.

Reuben Rode - Kyabram
Alongside Depasquale in the dominant Kyabram win, Rode continued his encouraging form with 14 disposals at an elite 93% efficiency to go with two goals and eight contested possessions. His defensive intent again impressed, while he also began using his pace more consistently throughout the game.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Eli Pearce - Bell Park
Returning to Bell Park after representing the VFL Young Guns last week, Pearce made an immediate impact in Bell Park’s 38-point win over Leopold. He collected 21 disposals, kicked two goals and recorded nine score involvements while spending time across multiple roles, including forward, wing and in the ruck. He looked dangerous forward of the ball, relished his time in the ruck and later shifted onto the wing in the final quarter where he went head-to-head with some of Leopold’s top-end talent, while a spectacular hanger was also one of the highlights of the day.

Liam Kershaw - St Joseph’s
Kershaw produced arguably his best game of the season in St Joseph’s huge 130-point victory over North Shore. Playing across half back, he gathered 27 disposals and eight marks while continuing to show growth in his defensive craft and ball use, consistently making good decisions and generating offence from defence.

Micah Robb - Colac
Despite Colac suffering a heavy defeat to South Barwon, Robb continued to impress with his pressure and work rate across half forward and through the midfield. He finished with 17 disposals, a game-high 10 tackles and a goal, while also contributing four clearances in another strong all-round performance with several quality touches throughout the day.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Foster Gardiner - Newcomb
With North Albury having the bye, Gardiner joined fellow Werribee-listed player Tom Webster at Newcomb and made an immediate impact in the side’s thrilling one-point win over Geelong Amateur. Playing a challenging high forward role with significant defensive responsibility, Gardiner finished with 18 disposals, two goals and five tackles, executing the role strongly while also becoming dangerous offensively.

Tom Webster - Newcomb
Webster was outstanding in the same one-point victory, producing a dominant defensive performance while also controlling Newcomb’s ball movement from the back half. Tasked with limiting the opposition’s best key forward, which he did to a high level, Webster also gathered 32 disposals, 10 intercept possessions and nine rebound 50s while continuing to show his composure and ability to generate offence from defence.

Bendigo Football Netball League:

Zane Keighran - Strathfieldsaye
Returning after missing a week through injury, Keighran immediately returned to form in Strathfieldsaye’s 55-point win over Castlemaine. The classy defender amassed 36 disposals and 10 marks, while also intercepting strongly behind the ball with five intercept possessions. His ability to read the play and launch attacking chains from defence continually stood out throughout the afternoon, while he also finished with seven inside 50s.

Riddell District Football Netball League:

Nash King - Wallan
Returning to Wallan after representing the VFL Young Guns last week, King produced another impressive performance in Wallan’s 18-point win over Kyneton. He finished with 29 disposals at 76% efficiency, eight marks, five clearances and two goals in a strong all-round display. His composure with ball in hand and ability to impact on both sides of his body again stood out, while his attitude and consistency in performing his role continues to impress.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Archie Taylor - Cobden
Taylor’s outstanding season continued despite Cobden falling heartbreakingly short by three points to Hamilton after charging home with five final-quarter goals. With opposition attention beginning to increase week by week, Taylor still managed to finish with 29 disposals, 18 contested possessions, seven clearances and eight tackles, once again leading from the front around stoppage. His pressure and ability to continue finding the footy despite the increased attention again stood out as he was named Cobden’s best player.

Tylar Watts - Portland
Watts battled strongly against former AFL ruckman Nathan Vardy despite Portland’s 47-point loss to North Warrnambool, producing another impressive all-round ruck performance. He finished with 19 disposals, 34 hitouts, seven clearances, six tackles and a goal, with his second efforts around stoppage and work rate around the ground continuing to stand out as he was named Portland’s best player.

Western Football Netball League:

Rani Pavlidis - Werribee Districts
Pavlidis returned to the goal scorers list in Werribee Districts’ 55-point win over Point Cook, producing an efficient performance in his small forward role. He finished with 10 disposals at 80% efficiency and two goals, with his poise and decision making in possession again standing out. His impact during a crucial third-quarter surge was particularly important, while his clean finishing around goal and ability to create scoring opportunities continued to impress.

Wil Kliszewski - Yarraville Seddon
Kliszewski too returned to the goal scorers list in windy conditions as Yarraville Seddon defeated Spotswood by 36 points. Playing as a key focal point forward, he finished with 12 disposals, nine contested possessions and two goals while also being named in the best. His work rate, pressure and competitiveness aerially continued to stand out throughout the afternoon.

Wimmera Football Netball League:

Cody Bryan - Horsham Saints
Bryan continued to compete strongly in Horsham Saints’ 10-point loss to Southern Mallee, finishing with 17 disposals and 12 contested possessions while again being named in the best. Spending time through multiple roles, he continued to show his ability to win the ball in tight.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
Miller battled through a tougher matchup in Williamstown CYMS’ four-point win over Old Geelong, finishing with 11 disposals, eight contested possessions and a goal. Receiving significant attention from his direct opponent, Miller still competed strongly throughout the day and applied strong pressure, while also spending a short burst through the midfield late in the game where he impacted well around stoppages.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Cooper Hall - Lavington
Hall continued his development through the midfield in Lavington’s 18-point loss to Myrtleford, collecting 15 disposals and five tackles. The youngster continues learning the midfield craft while showing strong intent around the contest.

Nick Newton - Lavington
Newton produced an improved outing in the same game, gathering 19 disposals while showing his ability to break lines and gain territory with his run and carry. His ability to generate metres gained stood out, producing a much stronger performance than the previous week.

Essendon District Football League:

Tom Cappellari - Doutta Stars
Cappellari’s afternoon got off to the perfect start, booting the opening major of the day with a snapping goal, however his day would unfortunately end early after suffering another hamstring injury just three minutes into the game. Essendon Doutta Stars would go on to record an impressive 38-point win over one of the country’s strongest local sides in Keilor.
