It was a big ANZAC Day weekend for Werribee, returning to the winners list with a win over Williamstown at DSV Stadium, securing a first away win against the Seagulls since 2022. At local level, 15 players pulled on the boots across eight leagues, producing some strong performances across the board.

Essendon District Football League:

Tom Cappellari - Doutta Stars
Cappellari produced one of the standout performances of the weekend in Doutta Stars’ 28-point loss to Maribyrnong Park, finishing with 34 disposals, 13 contested possessions and five clearances. He also hit the scoreboard in a big way with a massive four goals from the midfield, in what could have been more also kicking four behinds, with his impact across multiple roles and ability to bring others into the game seeing him named in the best.

Hampden Football Netball League:

Myles McCluggage - South Warrnambool
McCluggage continued his strong start to the season in South Warrnambool’s 40-point win over Port Fairy, collecting 28 disposals and using the ball well at 79%, along with nine contested possessions and nine marks. With a couple of key midfielders missing, he stepped up through the middle, applying eight tackles and hitting the scoreboard with three goals, with his pressure and delivery inside 50 again a standout.

Archie Taylor - Cobden
Taylor’s outstanding form rolled on despite Cobden’s 50-point loss to Terang Mortlake, finishing with 33 disposals, 15 contested possessions and nine clearances. He also recorded eight tackles, six inside 50s and a goal, continuing his impressive start to the season, with his ability to win the ball in tight and use his pace and evasiveness in traffic again standing out as he was named in the best.

Tylar Watts - Portland
Watts delivered another strong performance in Portland’s 55-point win over Hamilton, finishing with 14 disposals and using the ball well at 81%, while also recording 23 hitouts (11 to advantage), three clearances, six tackles and hitting the scoreboard for a goal. Competing against a bigger ruckman, he was able to have greater impact around the ground and was named in the best.

Victorian Amateur Football Association:

Harrison Miller - Williamstown CYMS
In Williamstown CYMS’ 47-point loss to Collegians, their first loss of the season after a strong 10-goal win in the opener, Miller finished with 14 disposals and nine marks while also kicking two goals after his 4.7 last week, with his ability to work higher up the ground to find more of the footy a standout for the small forward.

Wimmera Football Netball League:

Cody Bryan - Horsham Saints
Bryan impressed in the Horsham derby as Horsham Saints recorded a 77-point win over Horsham Demons, finishing with 22 disposals and eight marks while also kicking a goal. Playing mainly across half forward, he was also able to win 17 hitouts in the ruck and was named in the best.

Geelong Football Netball League:

Liam Kershaw - St Joseph’s
Kershaw battled hard in St Joseph’s 104-point smashing at the hands of South Barwon, finishing with 20 disposals and six marks, including two intercept. He continued to provide drive from half back and looked to generate offence, maintaining his role despite the result.

Micah Robb - Colac
In a two-point loss to Leopold in a thriller, Robb finished with 14 disposals, eight contested possessions and five intercept possessions, continuing to play his role across the wing and half forward.

Ollie Bridgewater - Bell Park
Bridgewater showed strong resilience in Bell Park’s 80-point loss to St Mary’s, suffering a broken wrist in the opening minutes but battling through the game. He finished with 17 disposals, 12 contested possessions, 25 hitouts and five clearances, continuing to compete strongly at stoppage despite the injury.

Bellarine Football Netball League:

Tom Webster - Newcomb
Tom Webster delivered a strong performance in Newcomb’s 67-point win over Ocean Grove, with the key defender finishing with 18 disposals, which included six marks. He executed his defensive role to a high standard while also providing strong leadership and organisation behind the ball.

Ovens & Murray Football Netball League:

Foster Gardiner - North Albury
Named in the best playing in the backline in North Albury’s 25-point loss to Albury, their fourth straight to start the season, Gardiner finished with 13 disposals and used the ball well at 85%, along with eight contested possessions and three tackles. He looked a class above at times with his composure, defensive work and ability to impact in the back half.

Goulburn Valley Football Netball League:

Anthony Depasquale - Kyabram
In Kyabram’s first loss of the season in the Round 4 matchup with Echuca, going down by nine points, Depasquale continued his goal scoring form with another three goals on the week, to go with 21 disposals and five score involvements. He again looked dangerous inside 50 and continued to create scoring opportunities.

Reuben Rode - Kyabram
Alongside Depasquale in the nine-point loss to Echuca, Rode finished with 15 disposals, three marks and a season-high two goals, with his form building to start the season, looking more dangerous across the weekend.

Western Football Netball League:

Rani Pavlidis - Werribee Districts
Pavlidis had a quieter game in Werribee Districts’ 41-point win over Hoppers Crossing, finishing with seven disposals while using the ball perfectly at 100%. He also contributed three score involvements and two direct goal assists, showing composure in congestion while playing on one of the competition’s better lockdown small defenders before his day was cut short by injury.

Wil Kliszewski - Yarraville Seddon
In his first game at local level for Yarraville Seddon after opening 2026 at VFL level, Kliszewski finished with nine disposals, six contested possessions and five marks, including four contested. With reduced game time, his strong marking around the ground was a standout as usual, while he also provided good contests and some drive when going into the ruck.
