With Round One now only just over a week away, Werribee has more signing news with midfielder Nash King joining for the 2026 Smithy’s VFL season.

The announcement comes with Werribee’s final practice match in preparation for 2026 taking place tomorrow, facing Footscray at Whitten Oval at 10:00am, with King set to play.

King, a 20-year-old midfielder, comes to Werribee with VFL experience after spending last year’s VFL campaign with Carlton.

He made his VFL debut in Round 12, playing as a forward against the Northern Bullants, where he kicked a goal with his first kick in the first quarter and finished with eight disposals and five marks.

He finished the season at VFL level with three games, ending the year with 11 disposals and five tackles against eventual premiers Footscray in Round 21 before making the move to Werribee.

Prior to joining Carlton’s VFL program, King built an impressive junior career with the Calder Cannons in the Coates Talent League. Across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he played 12 games for the Cannons and averaged more than 22 disposals per game, establishing himself as a strong inside midfielder around the contest.

King also represented Vic Metro at the AFL Under 18 Championships across two seasons, including a bottom-age campaign in 2023. Despite battling a hamstring injury during his top-age year, he produced a strong finish to the Coates Talent League season, putting together a run of four consecutive games with 30 or more disposals.

At local level, King has played all of his junior football with Wallan, and will once again represent the Magpies this season. In 2025 he played 13 senior games while splitting his time between Wallan and Carlton’s VFL program, averaging over 28 disposals and 12 contested possessions per game.

King becomes the latest addition to Werribee’s 2026 list, following the recent announcements of Eli Pearce and Tom Webster across the past week.

Pearce joins the club from Bell Park in the Geelong Football Netball League, where the 22-year-old enjoyed a standout 2025 season, finishing fifth in the league Best and Fairest after averaging over 19 disposals and a goal per game. A former Bendigo Pioneers product, the 194cm midfielder played 19 games in the Coates Talent League across 2022 and 2023, while also spending the 2023 season on Carlton’s VFL list, dividing his time between the Blues and the Pioneers.

Webster arrives as a 24-year-old key defender after three impressive seasons with Newcomb in the Bellarine Football Netball League, where he earned Team of the Year honours twice. Originally from Traralgon, Webster played his junior football there before playing his last senior game for the club in 2021, later joining Newcomb ahead of the 2023 season.
