Respected Hampden FN League coach and mentor Mathew Buck joined Werribee as a Development coach ahead of the 2020 season.
After almost two decades as a player and coach with a number of clubs in the south-western Victoria competition, Mat was keen to take his coaching career to the next level.
Mat’s coaching footprint on the Hampden League post his playing days with Terang Mortlake, North Warrnambool and Koroit, is extensive and punctuated by success.
After two years under south-west coaching great Adam Dowie, Mat took the senior coaching reins at South Warrnambool in 2016, where he led the club from eighth to two successive finals series.
In 2019, Mat returned to powerhouse Koroit for a second stint as an assistant coach, culminating in the club's record sixth consecutive premiership.
As Werribee development coach, Mat will work closely with listed players who miss senior selection to help them take the required steps to put themselves into VFL contention. This will also see him working closely with local interchange clubs.
