Werribee playing midfield coach Michael Barlow will make his highly anticipated return to the field when his side takes on Footscray at VU Whitten Oval on Saturday for the HealthWest Cup.
Barlow was named as a possible inclusion for last weekend’s clash with Port Melbourne but now looks all but certain to take his place against the Bulldogs for what will be his first match since suffering a fractured jaw in his side’s season opener against North Melbourne.
Key defender Daniel Nielson is the other big inclusion, having been a late withdrawal from the loss to the Borough due to concussion.
Two more players could also receive a VFL call-up on the back of big performances at local level.
Joel Bennett has been added to the 27-man squad and could make his first appearance in Werribee colours for the year thanks to a strong showing for Geelong Football League side Geelong West Giants, while Alex Marklew has also been included on the extended bench for a possible "big W" debut after stringing together some impressive form with Bendigo Football League side Golden Square.
Forward Tom Boyd will again line up as Werribee’s 23rd player.
