Werribee’s Development League side was denied a fairytale swansong at Casey Fields on Saturday night, going down to the Casey Demons by 124 points in its final ever match.
Hoping to go out on a high after AFL Victoria announced in July it would axe the competition at season’s end, the Tigers were caught on the back foot early before steadying in the second term to trail by 39 points at the main break.
But it was all one-way traffic from there, the Demons producing a dominant second half in front of goal while restricting Werribee to 1.1.
Despite enduring a tough season, the Tigers have enjoyed their share of memorable moments throughout the Development League this year.
After playing out a thrilling draw against Williamstown in round six, they produced an equally thrilling five-point win over the Seagulls just four weeks later, though their most remarkable performance came against Box Hill in round 16, when they recorded a 20-point victory in the wet after going down to the same side by 119 points just a fortnight earlier.
The Werribee Football Club would like to thank its Development League playing group, staff, and volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the club across the 2017 season.
