Werribee’s senior side suffered its first pre-season defeat of 2017 when it went down to the Northern Blues by 23 points at Arden Street on Sunday.
A tight first term saw the lead change hands several times before the Blues’ Rhys Palmer goaled on the quarter-time siren, after which his side was never headed, maintaining a slim advantage through to the main break before kicking clear in the second half.
With 15 North Melbourne-listed players lining up for Werribee, the match provided another good opportunity for a number of players to push their case for AFL selection, Nick Larkey again impressive in front of goal in booting three majors.
The Tigers will now look towards Saturday’s clash with the Casey Demons at Casey Fields before turning their attention towards their VFL season opener against Geelong in Torquay on Easter Sunday.
