Rd 9 v Collingwood Match Report

Tigers get the (Colli) Wobbles

It was a typical June day and the light rain and wet ground conditions provided the perfect conditions for first to the ball footy. Thanks to the diligent Werribee staff (Pena, & Stoney) the centre wicket area was better than could be expected given the weather. Werribee decided to rest its three state players- Wilson, Hanson and Sodomaco- who had flown to Adelaide last week to represent the Big V while the rest of the squad had the weekend off. As has so often been the case this season the opposition started well and the Tigers were 20 points down very early, and went to the first break down by that margin. It was a bit of déjà vu for senior coach John Lamont.

“It reminded me a lot of the final when we played them last year. We just gave up an early lead and could never get it back”.

The Tigers clawed the margin back to 14 points by half time but never hit the front. Lamont saw similarities with their previous loss.

“It was a bit like the Sandringham game. We just couldn’t get our game going, and our error rate was too high, too many mistakes. I thought our general effort was ok,but we made some horrible mistakes that led directly to opposition goals. In the end we just didn’t play well enough. One pleasing aspect was the return of Josh Porter who had some impact which was a positive”

It is another split weekend for the Tigers over the long weekend. The Development side play Sandringham at 11am on Saturday at Trevor Barker Beach Oval while the seniors now out of the 8 travel to Punt Road to play Richmond on Sunday from 12.30pm.
