As supporters and observers of the game there just seems to be some teams that you have trouble with, no matter where you, or they, are on the ladder. For Werribee, that team of recent times has been Sandringham.
The Zebras downed the Tigers both times in 2015 and John Lamont knew he and his chargers were in for a big game heading to Trevor Barker Beach Oval last Sunday.
The Tigers started well, kicking with the breeze, going to the first break 6.4 to 2.2 was about break even. The coach was pleased.
“Yes on the back of some good defensive efforts we started pretty well but we did waste a few opportunities. Then as the game wore on, out initiative in our game dropped off. We continued to make mistakes and it affected our nerve and we went back into our shell a bit. We became hesitant with our ball movement. We got to the last quarter with our nose just in front. They kicked a few early and we did respond with a couple, but then they got their tails up, and that was all she wrote. It was a frustrating loss because we made too many errors and we paid the price”
There are no games this weekend due to the state game in Adelaide. Werribee will train tonight (Monday) then the development side will play a Metro under 18 squad on Wednesday night at Avalon Airport Oval. Some players will go back to their local football clubs this weekend.
Next week training will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday with us back at Avalon-Airport Oval for Round 9, taking place on Saturday the 4th of June. The Development League will face Williamstown at 11am, with the Seniors going up against Collingwood 2pm. The senior game will be live streamed on aflvic.com.au.
