HOW IT HAPPENED
Fortunes rode almost entirely on the strong breeze blowing towards the southeastern pocket at SkyBus Stadium, and Frankston had the first opportunity to make use of it, booting 2.7 to Werribee’s two behinds to jump out to a 17-point quarter-time lead. The “big W” hit back in the second term, Jake Riccardi snapping through his side’s first and then marking on the lead and putting through his second before some opportunism in the goalface from Jack Henderson had the visitors five points clear at the main break.
A brilliant running goal from Matt Munro after half time bucked the scoring trend as the first of the afternoon into the breeze and put Werribee 13 points clear before the Dolphins hit back with two goals to hold a three-point advantage at the final change. But a 4.7 final quarter while keeping the hosts scoreless had the “big W” comfortably home for its fourth win of the year, Riccardi adding a third, Tom Boyd getting on the board with his first VFL goal, and Tom Gribble complimenting his midfield brilliance with two superb running goals.
