Last Sunday morning 25 Werribee and North Melbourne Football Club souls braved some grey and wintery conditions to attack the fairways of the beautiful Werribee Park Golf Club.
After some welcome hospitality in the club’s Views Function Bar & Grill, it was onto the course proper for 9 holes of scintillating golf. The more serious players came with their own clubs and golfing reputations while a few of the hacks were there for a nice walk.
The players split into groups and the names probably tell the story of the day. They were- Matt Damon, The Stingers, Hack City, The Diplomats and The Flying Potatoes. Enough said. The sun did come out during the round and that was not the only bright spot.
Matt Brett, Jake Wilson, Harrison King, Dane McFarlane and Michael Sodomaco and others too humorous to mention, showed their ability in hitting that little white ball. It was good to see Lachie Hansen showing leadership to his younger charges Sam Durdin and Kayne Turner. Safe to say the course record for 9 holes was never in danger.
In the end it was a great day for all concerned. In the interests of team harmony winners were not announced, but you can expect some lively banter in the locker room in the next week or so.
