Werribee forward Fabian Brancatisano notched his second straight four-goal haul for Western Region Football League side Sunshine in its 114-point win over Wyndhamvale on Saturday.
Brancatisano finished among the Kangaroos’ best and as one of the chief contributors in their 22-goal haul against the Falcons to take his tally in the blue and gold to 11 goals from three games.
While it was another tough day for Wyndhamvale, Josh Mould again put in a strong defensive performance to finish among his side’s best despite being forced from the field with concussion.
Elsewhere in the WRFL, Nick Weightman produced a typically sound effort of half-back as one of Albion’s best as the Cats almost caused one of the boilovers of the season, going down to ladder leaders Werribee Districts by 13 points.
Also among the Werribee standouts in the local leagues, Nathan Laracy finished as best afield for Myrtleford in its tough 86-point loss to Ovens & Murray Football League rival Lavington Panthers, while Julian Lockwood was among Leongatha’s top performers in its nine-point win over Maffra in a 2017 Gippsland Football League grand final rematch.
With byes in the Geelong and Hampden Football Leagues due to the AFL Victoria Community Cup making for a quieter weekend on the local footy front, there were a further six Werribee players in action across Melbourne’s suburban competitions:
• Back in the WRFL, Spiros Amarantidis made his return for Deer Park but couldn’t save the Lions from going down to Hoppers Crossing by 10 points.
• In the Essendon District Football League, Luke Hitch and Brad Xavier both stepped up to Keilor’s senior side as the Blues notched a 16-point win over Essendon Doutta Stars, while Charlie Bance enjoyed a 58-point win over West Coburg with his Maribyrnong Park outfit.
• Brydon Hodgson’s Heidelberg chalked up a 15-point win over Montmorency in the Northern Football League.
• Harrison King’s Bacchus Marsh solidified its position atop the Ballarat Football League table with a 49-point win over Sebastopol.
