Famine to footy feast at Avalon Airport Oval

Werribee fans go from a famine to a feast as football returns to Avalon Airport Oval @ Chrinside Park this weekend.

It has been a most unusual year for the club, but the payoff starts this Saturday night, when the Werribee boys take on the Casey Demons under lights.

The match heralds the beginning of a month of great football action and the chance for the club to showcase what is has to offer on and off the field for the future.

Round three will see Williamstown travelling to Werribee for the much-anticipated clash between the two sides, which kicks off at 2pm on Sunday, April 22.

This good old-fashioned suburban rivalry is based on years of close, hard-fought contests between the two sides that have generated great mutual respect but not much fondness for each other, and with both clubs now non-AFL aligned, it will be just like the old days.

The annual Werribee Women’s Football Circle High Tea then returns to the salubrious Chirnsides by the River for round four on Saturday, April 28.

The Channel 7 cameras will be covering Werribee’s clash with the Richmond Tigers on the ground while the ladies enjoy scones, pastries, bubbles, and secret women’s business upstairs, which includes guest speaker Ann Peacock.

To ensure a big finish to the first month of 2018 football, the black-and-white army will descend on Avalon Airport Oval @ Chirnside Park on Saturday, May 5 to see Werribee host Collingwood in a twilight game beginning at 5pm.

Werribee will be celebrating its annual Past Players and Officials Day, and what a blast it will be for those who have been involved in the history of the club to see its future.

The club will be hosting official pre-game functions for all home games, which are open to the public and offer an insight into the latest news and events around the club.

President Martin Carter and senior coach John Lamont speak before each home game, as do a number of high-profile guest speakers from all walks of life.

Ladies' Day bookings are now available via the online shop, with bookings for further match-day functions on sale soon.
