Jack Berry and Charlie Bance will both be looking to be in selection contention for Werribee’s long-awaited return to Avalon Airport Oval this weekend after both escaping serious injury in separate on-field incidents.
Berry jarred his knee late in his side’s season-opening clash with Geelong but has been cleared of any major damage by scans and will undergo testing later in the week to determine his availability for Saturday night.
It’s welcome news for both Werribee and the former Geelong VFL-listed ruckman, who enjoyed a fine debut outing against his old side on Easter Sunday, registering 22 hitouts and kicking an important early goal.
Bance will also be tested later in the week in the hope of being available for a senior recall, having been given the all-clear after receiving a knock to the shoulder while playing for interchange club Maribyrnong Park on Saturday.
In further positive news for Werribee, Joel Bennett and Jack Irvine have progressed rapidly since being sidelined with their respective scaphoid and metatarsal injuries and are both eyeing a return to the field in the next fortnight.
